How do I get started?
Welcome to the Coolest Game on Earth!
The ice rinks and youth hockey associations around Dane County host numerous Try Hockey For Free events every year. Many of these events take place in the late summer and fall, right before the hockey season begins, but look for them in the spring and summer as well. It’s never a bad time to have some fun!
No skating or hockey experience is required. We love introducing new players to the sport of hockey. Your athlete will be on the ice with certified coaches and instructors who are there to help players of all abilities and show them how FUN hockey is for everyone. Youth hockey is played by both boys and girls, and the vast majority of teams through age 14 are coed. There are also all-girls options for certain ages/associations.
Most host locations will have loaner equipment, but you are welcome to bring your own if you have it. Contact your host site directly for more information on equipment availability.
It’s never too late to start hockey! Many Try Hockey For Free events are geared towards kids in the 4-11 age range, but check your local event listings for specifics and contact your host site to see if they are able to accommodate participants outside these age ranges. Countless successful hockey players didn’t start skating until they were 9, 10 or even older. If you’re ready to start having fun, we’re ready for you!
Here are some upcoming Try Hockey For Free events. Check the details for location and age ranges. Note that these events are coed (both boys and girls) unless specifically indicated for girls only.
